A. חֶסֶד—Güte Although Stoebe (1971: 600, 601; cf. 610) adopts this ‘translation’ as the heading for his article, he points out that this is only an imperfect rendering of the word חֶסֶד, and that the breadth of its meaning in its secular usage cannot be expressed exactly by a single German word. That ‘goodness’ is an approximation to the meaning of חֶסֶד has been confirmed while examining passages that contain the verb עשׂה and the noun טו̇ב, for each of these occurrences conforms to the constraints
